The recovery of assets stolen by kleptocrats, and their return to victim nations, is a key international tool of justice for redressing corruption, and remediating harm suffered by individuals and communities. However, asset recovery remains a process heavily impacted by technical complexity and cumbersome forms of statecraft. It is an area that needs democratising and greater input from civil society, particularly from those regions deeply effected by corruption.
