Andrew Jefferson
Friends of ISCIAndrew is a prison ethnographer and works as a Senior Researcher at DIGNITY – Danish Institute Against Torture. Over two decades he has worked on prisons and prison reform in the global south conducting field research in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, the Philippines, Tunisia and Myanmar. He has specific interests in the relationship between confinement and subjectivity, and the potential of abolitionist thought and action to undercut penal power. Currently he is working on issues related to the gendered and political character of imprisonment, as well as the practice of lawyering under repressive conditions. Andrew is co-founder and co-convener of the Global Prisons Research Network.
