Renata Meirelles is taking part in a study abroad programme at King’s College London. She is a PhD student at the University of São Paulo in the Social History Department. Between 2009 and 2011, she was a member of the PROIN laboratory research team run by the Arquivo do Estado de São Paulo (Archive of the State of São Paulo), where she worked on a project to digitize documents from DOPS (Department of Political and Social Order), an official police branch in charge of the political repression during the Brazilian military regime. This research led to a number of interviews and a subsequent published article about the experiences of women political prisoners during the Brazilian military regime.  Her interests include human rights, Brazilian contemporary history, more specifically in history and memory of the Brazilian dictatorship. Renata’s research is a study of Amnesty International work in Brazil regarding political prisoners during the dictatorship period (1964-85).
