Marie holds a postgraduate degree in Political Theory from the London School of Economics. She holds an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree in International Relations and Law from the Amsterdam University College and receives a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes in Germany. Several stays in Latin America involving voluntary work (for ten months in Ecuador) and research (for one semester at the Universidad de las Americas Puebla, Mexico) for her undergraduate dissertation about drug trade in Mexico have shaped her strong interest in corruption and organised crime. She speaks German, English, Spanish, Dutch and some French and Portuguese.
